Richland Low Level Deck

An 8' × 30' freestanding low-level deck replacing a concrete stoop across the front of a brick ranch home.

About This Build

This Richland homeowner had a narrow strip of bare ground along the front of their brick ranch, with a concrete stoop and a metal handrail at the door. They wanted usable outdoor space that read as part of the house rather than an add-on — and they wanted it low enough to step straight out onto without a run of stairs.

We built an 8' × 30' freestanding deck on pressure-treated framing, set low to the grade so the surface meets the door threshold and you step straight out without a stair run. The railing does double duty — it defines the edge and ties the deck into the white trim already on the house.

The surface is TimberTech Natural White Oak composite decking, run the length of the house with a contrasting border. Railing is RDI white vinyl with black aluminum balusters, and the perimeter is wrapped in white Azek woodgrain trim so no framing lumber is left exposed to weather.

Finished

The completed deck — low to grade, wrapped in white trim, with the railing tying into the existing house detail.

Before

A bare strip along the front of the house, with an existing concrete stoop and metal handrail at the door.

Site Preparation

Layout marked, ground graded, and the perimeter set level before anything goes vertical.

Framing

Pressure-treated framing, joists set on consistent spacing, squared and levelled before any boards go down.

Decking & Railing

TimberTech Natural White Oak boards going down, then the RDI vinyl railing and Azek trim.
